In this talk, I will discuss several new topics on the controlling of light on a small scale. These include: the passive radiative cooling and heating textiles embedded with nanophotonic structures; a non-Hermitian topological effect in which gain and loss are robustly localized to the edge of a uniform material; and the nonreciprocal light propagation in a parity-time symmetric waveguide. These topics highlight the unprecedented capabilities of nanophotonic structures in photonic integration, information processing, and sustainable energy.
Dr. Alex Y. Song is an incoming Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney. He is currently a postdoctoral scholar in the E. L. Ginzton Laboratory and the Department of Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University. He completed his B.S. in Mathematics and Physics, and M.S in Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University.
